Poker is a game of chance in which players use their cards to make the best hand. Each hand consists of five cards. The highest hand wins the pot.

The game of poker usually uses a standard pack of 52 cards. These are ranked from Ace to Ten. Some poker games have wild cards that can substitute any other card in the hand.

Cards are dealt from left to right. Typically, the dealer is given the first card. It is then the turn of the next player to make a bet. This round continues until every player has had a chance to make a bet.

Each player is then required to place chips into the pot. The chips are either white or red. Usually, a blue chip is worth two, four, or five reds.

Once each player has placed chips into the pot, a betting interval begins. During this time, all but one player may fold.

At the end of the betting interval, the next player to make a bet has the responsibility of revealing their cards. The cards are then discarded, and a new round of betting begins.

In some games, the ace is regarded as the lowest card. When multiple people tie for the highest card, the high card breaks the tie.

A straight hand of five cards is sometimes used as the final showdown. A full house is a hand made up of three distinct pairs of cards and the fifth card.
